To significantly improve accuracy and precision perform the test as follows:

Purchase 1 gallon of distilled water ($0.85).

1.  Into a clean measuring cup pour 15 ounces of distilled water

take measurement of distilled water if desired

2.  Add 1 ounce of your tap water

3.  Take the measurements as described previously

4.  Use the table or the chart to look up your TDS value

 

Read the value obtained from your reading on the left side of the Graph.

Find the point where the diagonal line crosses through that value and go straight down to obtain the TDS value that correspond to the Kohm (resistance) reading you obtained on the VOM.

Ex. The reading you obtained was 200 kohms. The corresponding TDS value will be approximately 325 PPM.
